Drops 113-34 Sweater
I just picked this sweater back up on the weekend. I’m working on the first sleeve. If I can keep concentrating on it then I should be able to finish it in the next few weeks.

Veronica Baby Sweater
I finished the Veronica Baby Sweater a while ago. I didn’t blog about it before this week because I’m horrible at taking photos of completed projects. So that’s something I need to work on doing more regularly.

Northern Forest Toe-Up Crusoe Socks
I may have done a few more rows on the Northern Forest Toe-Up Crusoe Socks since I last posted. Not much progress has been made though.

Boot Covers
I didn’t work on the Boot Covers this past month.

Celtic Tote
 The Celtic Tote is another project that hasn’t been out of it’s project bag since my last roll call.

Fairly Easy Fair Isle
The Fairly Easy Fair Isle has been blocked. It took about a week to dry. I have purchased the buttons, but I still need to attach them to the sweater. It looks really pretty now that it’s been all blocked out.

Dad’s 12th Socks
For my Dad’s birthday I started a pair of socks for him. The first sock was almost finished when I gifted them to him on August 18th. I’m using Knit Picks Stroll Sport for the first time and I’ve ran out of yarn. I ordered two balls and now these are stalled after the second heel while I wait for the third ball of yarn to arrive. As usual, I’m using Wendy’s Generic Toe-up sock pattern, this time with 64 stitches around and the toe and heel short rowed to 12 stitches.

Coachella
I started a tank top for myself, when it was nice and warm at the beginning of August, using the Coachella pattern from Knitty and Sirdar Just Bamboo that I picked up at the Victoria Fibre Fest.  This was the project I focused on the most during August. This past weekend I joined the body in the round for the bottom and tried it on and it doesn’t fit right. So I frogged it right away and the yarn is going to be in a time out until next spring while I figure out what it wants to be.

Purple Baby Hats
This past weekend I started working on baby hats for the Period of PURPLE Crying Awareness Campaign (details in Saturday’s post). I am using the Baby Squash Hat pattern from 101 Designer One-Skein Wonders for at least the first two hats and a giant ball of lilac Bernat Baby Sport. I’m not sure how many I’ll end up making but my goal is at least 5.

I finished up the Veronica Baby Sweater a few weeks ago and it has since been washed and dried. I really enjoyed knitting this baby sweater. The lace kept it interesting and wasn’t difficult to knit, although I did not manage to memorize the pattern.

I really loved the Wendy Peter Pan 4 Ply yarn, which is good since this sweater was my third attempt with it. The colour in this yarn is gorgeous and the flecks of blues and purples add depth and interest.

The only changes I would make to would be to incorporate button holes instead of using a hook and eye, at least for the six month size. The hooks and eyes just seem like they would be difficult to manage on such a small person. This sweater is destined for my baby sweater stash, for gifting to a new baby in the future.

How to Knit a Love Song Cover

How to Knit a Love Song by Rachael Herron was my gift for my Mom for Mother’s Day. She read it and then lent it to me (all part of my plan).  I started reading it on Sunday night and finished it on Tuesday night. I could not put the book down. I’ve been enjoying Rachael’s blog, Yarn-A-Go-Go, for years; now it may just be me but reading the book seemed just like Rachael’s writing voice on her blog. By that I mean that it was as enjoyable to read as the stories she shares there and that it sounded like I could have been reading a story off her blog. I don’t want to get into the details of the story, because I’m always upset when I find out anything about a plot before I read the book.  I would highly recommend this book to anyone who knits and/or likes a good romance story.

Happy August! I feel like it might be beneficial to do a knitting project review at the beginning of every month to see what I have on the needles. Ideally I’d like to keep the number of projects I have on the go at one time to about 3 or 4. I need to finish up a few things that are sitting around for that to happen.

Drops 113-34 Sweater
I have the back and two fronts completed of the Drop 113-34 Sweater (such a lovely name) and all that’s left are the sleeves and rather large front button bands. This project is bulky wool, I started it during a particularly cool week in May. The heat of the summer has made it so that this project just isn’t appealing to me right now. It’s on hold until the Fall when the weather is cooler so I’ll want to knit it and more importantly, I’ll want to wear it.

Veronica Baby Sweater
The Veronica Baby Sweater has made the most progress in the past few weeks, it’s great summer knitting due to it’s portable size and light weight. The body and sleeves are completed. I just need to sew it together and knit the neck band, hopefully that will happen this weekend.

Northern Forest Toe-Up Crusoe Socks
I’ve decided to keep plugging away at the Toe-Up Crusoe Socks. The gap between the front and the back doesn’t seem to be getting bigger, so it seems like things will be fine. I’ve done a few rows on these recently, but haven’t really been concentrating on them.

Boot Covers
I have the foot section of the Boot Covers made for both boots. I’m pretty much stalled on the leg of the boot where I knit in ribbing for inches and inches. It’s really not worse than a scarf but it just seems like I’m not getting anywhere, likely because I haven’t been working on it. The first leg I want to work on at home so that I can compare it to the size of the boot and the foot of the cover. The second leg could be a work project since I can just copy the first leg. I just need to get motivated to work on these so that they can progress.

On a related note, the Prairie Boots pattern by Julie Weisenberger is wonderful. I’ve made two pairs of slippers from it, one for myself and a pair for Michael. They fit great. I changed the pattern up a bit by making them with ribbing on the leg instead of garter stitch and I stopped only a few inches up the leg to so they are much shorter than the pattern calls for.

Celtic Tote
 I have one side completed of the Celtic Tote and I’ve started the side/bottom piece. I was planning on using this as a bag to lug stuff  back and forth to work, however, it looks like it’s not going to be as big as I’d like. It will make a great purse when it’s finished up though. This is another project that I just haven’t been motivated to work on.

Fairly Easy Fair Isle
The Fairly Easy Fair Isle is another bulky sweater that I pretty much don’t want to even think about right now.  It is waiting for me to give it a good blocking and sew some buttons on. I think I have purchased buttons, but I might be wrong. The warmth would make it a good time to block it. Then I’ll have a sweater ready to use as a light fall jacket. I’ll try to get to that this weekend too.

Yesterday was the 7th anniversary of my first blog post. It’s hard to really consider it my blogiversary though considering I just started blogging again after taking a break.

I am off for a week of vacation in 100 Mile House with my best friend Angela and her two kids. We’ll be staying with her parents. It should be a good break and hopefully I’ll get some knitting done. See you in a week!

I am going to attempt to document (or maybe showoff is a better term) a few of my favourite projects that I completed when I wasn’t blogging. First up, is my Knitting Olympics project, Mr. Foster from KnitPicks. My challenge to myself for this project was to finish the monkey and at least one piece of clothing during the Olympics. The timing was perfect as this was a present for Mathew’s birthday in early March. He had asked me to make him a knitted sock monkey (not a monkey sewn together out of socks) after seeing Mr. Foster in one of the KnitPicks Catalogues last summer.

This project was particularly challenging to me because I have a tendency not to finish stuffed animals. I do all the knitting but they sit around waiting to be stuffed, sewn together, and have their features embroidered on. I completely finished the monkey and his long underwear during the Olympic time frame, but the robe took a little longer. I came pretty close, and almost ended up hurting my hands in the final day trying to get the robe knit before the flame was extinguished. The finishing on the robe took another week, but everything was done in time for birthday gifting. The monkey was well received and after a few days of thought (and at my insistence that he needed a name), Mathew dubbed him Uncle Peter.

I decided to try out a new blogging platform. Polurnet, my web hosting provider supports WordPress software and even has an easy install feature. I haven’t had time to play around with setting it up on my domain, so I thought I would start a free blog and start blogging here and then move it over to my server when I have time.

My primary reason for trying this out after using my own blogging scripts for so long is spam. I’ve been getting the same message posted once or twice a day and I am getting tired of going in and deleting it.  Hopefully by changing to WordPress I can avoid this step.
