Mathew’s 5th Socks are Done
For Mathew’s birthday I gave him yarn for a new pair of socks. I purchased ONline Supersocke 100 Flower Color in colourway 1340. After I had Kris’s Socks almost finished, I cast on using Susan A Gordon’s Self Striping Toe Up Socks, since I wanted to try it for his feet. I managed to squeeze these socks out of a 100 gram ball, but it was cutting it very close.
They fit okay, but are a little tight around the ankle. I think this is because the afterthought heel resulted in the ribbing starting lower than with a short-row heel. In future I think I will stick with the short-row heel.

Fuzzy Friday – May 24, 2013
Fidget made a lot of grumbling noises when we put him into the bag, but then he didn’t want to get out of it. I think he thought it was a new bed made especially for him.
Celtic Tote is Finally Done!
A project that has been almost 4 years in the making is finally complete! I have been working on the Celtic Tote since July 2009. For various reasons I kept stalling on this project which is why it took so long to finish. A big part of that was embroidering around the cables on the front and back. I was smitten with the Celtic Tote pattern by Jennifer Tallapaneni as soon as I saw it in Interweave Knits Winter 2007. I bought the Briggs & Little Heritage in Sheeps Grey and Black shortly after that and then it took 7 months before I cast on. I finished the knitting last April, after to a long hiatus, and then it took over a year to complete the finishing. I mentioned this project in 29 posts, all project roll calls and weekly goals.
I finished the embroidery, seaming, and felting of the bag in January. I felted this project very lightly, just enough so that it has a slight halo and the embroidery stitches look like a solid line. A few weeks ago I went fabric shopping for the perfect lining materials and last weekend I sewed the lining and stitched it into the bag. The knitting was very floppy, so I wanted to have a lining with lots of body to give the bag structure. I used shoe canvas, heavy interfacing and a plaid blend. I added big pockets on each side of the interior.
While wandering around the fabric store I was inspired to create a theme with this bag, I think the plaid lining goes well with the Celtic cables on the exterior. Then in my button box I found a blue Celtic knot button that I purchased a few years ago at the Button and Needlework Boutique. It is entirely possible that this button was selected for the Celtic Tote project and I just forgot about it.
I decided that I really wanted this bag done this month, because in June, I am starting a new temporary position. My supervisor is going on maternity leave and I was hired as her replacement. The Celtic Tote is going to go to work with me and be used to carry materials to meetings, my version of a briefcase.
Southwest Felici Baby Cardi
At the beginning of the month I received word that a friend’s baby had been born. It coincided with needing a break on the projects that I had been working on, so I concentrated on knitting a little baby sweater for a week. The baby’s mom is one of the most energetic people I know, so I chose the bright and colourful Knit Picks Felici Sport in the Southwest colourway. I generated a baby sweater pattern for this yarn last year and I used it again for this sweater. Now that the buttons have been added, I can ship it off to the newborn’s family.
The Felici Sport is one of my favourite yarns to use for fast and simple baby sweaters, it’s a shame that it’s been discontinued. Luckily a few more sweaters worth still to go in my stash.

Purple and White Pear Baby Hat
The babies are coming! I know six babies that will be arriving this year that are knit worthy. I’ve decided on sweaters for three of them and hats (and maybe booties) for the other three.
In preparation, I queued a bunch of baby hats on Ravelry, as you do. I decided that I should test drive the patterns before making hats for the expected babies. To do this, I’m using purple yarn and I will donate them to the Click for Babies campaign to spread awareness of the Period of Purple Crying.
The first hat I knit is the Purple and White Pear Baby Hat. I used Melissa Thomson’s Golden Pear pattern and Red Heart Soft Touch in Grape and Bernat Satin in Silk. This hat is very cute. It is also very small and the fair isle sections do not allow for a lot of stretch. If I make it again I will add some stitches so it comes out bigger.
Temperature Scarf – April
My Temperature Scarf to the end of April. Lots of pink this month!
