Crocheted Baskets
Before Christmas I decided to whip up a couple of crocheted baskets for my Mom and Grandma’s gifts using Elizabeth Trantham’s Chunky Crocheted Basket pattern. Since my crocheting is still in the beginning stages, I came up with the idea of making myself a basket first to test everything out. I started my basket in November with leftover Bernat Softee Chunky and then remembered that Bernat has changed Softee Chunky when I went to find yarn for the gift baskets.
Instead I purchased Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick in Fig (for Mom) and Spice (for Grandma) and started from scratch, putting my own basket aside to meet holiday deadlines. Those baskets went well but I put off finishing my own until the beginning of March.
My gauge was different from the pattern, but like most thinks in crochet, it was easy to fudge…. I mean adapt. The baskets are fun but somewhat floppy when they aren’t filled up. Mom and Grandma seemed to appreciate them though, so overall I think they were a success.
